Environmental Incident Public Communications/ 2019
This document summarizes the findings of a 2019 IMPEL project on environmental incident public communications, specifically focusing on how European environmental regulators communicate with the public during incidents. The project, which involved presentations, case studies, and workshops, aimed to identify key areas for improvement in incident communications, such as 24/7 availability of trained staff and communications channels, media management, and social media engagement. The document presents 52 key findings, grouped by themes like strategic context, relationship building, and training, and emphasizes the need for clear guidance, capacity building, and the use of digital communications tools for effective public communication during environmental incidents.
