The circular economy package, adopted by the Commission on 2 December 2015, approved by the Environment Commission on 24 January 2017, has created an important momentum to support the transition towards a more circular economy in the EU. Waste management plays a central role in the circular economy. It determines how the EU waste hierarchy is put into practice. The waste hierarchy establishes a priority order from prevention, preparation for reuse, recycling and energy recovery through to disposal, such as landfilling.
Under this subtopic, IMPEL projects and project outputs like guidances, reports and tools are published that aims to create a level playing field and common understanding for waste and circular economy in permitting and inspection processes.
