In the last several years IMPEL and the European Commission have issued their positions concerning capacity building and consequently different IMPEL projects are now taking the initiative to develop their ideas on how to support its members in implementing the products that they deliver.

Building capacity is one of IMPEL’s core priorities and during the last two decades has developed a broad variety of tools, including methodologies and guidance. Supporting its members through various activities, such as training on the practical use of the developed tools as well as workshops and seminars is a common practice.

IMPEL project ‘Capacity Building and Training’ (2019-2021) aimed to develop, through a more consistent, overarching and integrated approach, a multi-annual strategy and a multi-annual work programme that will better connect the needs of IMPEL members and other key actors along the compliance chain.

The Knowledge and Information Programme (KIP) is a proof-of-concept project to demonstrate the value of Capacity Building and Training. KIP aims to deliver knowledge material, tools and training activities.

Project Outputs:

KIP Activities Report 2022-2024

This report details the activities and deliverables of the IMPEL Knowledge and Information Programme (KIP) from 2022 to 2024.  KIP was established as a proof-of-concept project to support IMPEL Expert Teams in developing tools, training materials, and disseminating project results, thereby enhancing connectivity and capacity building within the IMPEL network. This document outlines the KIP team's efforts in areas such as website development, the creation of guidance documents, the delivery of training activities, and the introduction of an e-learning tool to further support the implementation of EU environmental legislation.

KIP Conference for Ukraine Support/ 2024

The report summarizes the Prague Ukraine Support Conference held on December 10, 2024, which aimed to identify how IMPEL and its partners could support the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine (SEI). During the conference, presentations were given on various topics based on needs identified during an IMPEL Review Initiative and by partner organizations, including discussions on the reform and transformation of the SEI, the use of general binding rules, risk assessment, IT solutions, and accountability for wartime environmental damage.  The main outcomes and next steps included creating a network of experts to support Ukraine via IMPEL's Basecamp and establishing a Coordination Support Group for Ukraine (CSGU) to identify needs, seek funding, and develop support projects.

Please contact to info@impel.eu, if you are interested in the conference presentations.
