IMPEL Review Initiative focussing on Nature Conservation (‘Green IRI’)
Following the general IMPEL Review Initiative (IRI), this projects aims to make a picture of current situation within Member State or in certain area of the Member State in relation to the implementation and enforcement of EU legislation on nature conservation; mainly the Birds and Habitats Directives. The results are identified good practices and opportunities for improvement.

IKB exchange of information between Enforcement and other Stakeholders (IMPEL-ESIX)
Halting and reversing the loss of biodiversity by 2020 is a priority within the European Union. The implementation of EU Nature legislation (the Birds and Habitat Directives) is essential to achieve the EU 2020 biodiversity target. However, implementation and enforcement need to be improved.

Achieving better compliance in the agricultural sector through networking and partnership working of environmental and agricultural inspectorates
The European Commission identified this project area as a priority to IMPEL. They highlighted that there are poor levels of compliance with the Water Framework Directive (diffuse pollution & illegal abstraction) and the Nitrates Directive and that a gap has been identified between “environmental” and “agricultural” inspectorates. As a result they wished to see enhanced networking of different regulatory agencies to achieve higher levels of compliance in the agricultural sector, an exchange of pertinent information and current best practice with respect to diffuse pollution and the control of nitrates.

Linking the Directive on Industrial Emissions (IED) and REACH Regulation, phase I and II
In the Directive on Industrial Emissions (IED) there are many references to hazardous substances and the risks deriving from them. Consequently it is worthwhile to explore: whether the requirements/obligations under REACH Regulation can be useful for permitting and inspection work; what changes in REACH formats for registration, applications for authorisation would be possible in order to be even more compatible and provide added-value for IED permitting and inspection, which consequences (including positive effects) REACH requirements have for permitting and inspection activities, and how to improve the synergies and complementary nature between these two pieces of legislation.
