    The IMPEL “Waste Management and Circular Economy” (WMCE) project is moving through the waste hierarchy steps, in order to achieve a common understanding of the key points of the Waste Framework Directive and homogenise behaviours across Member States. The project has already produced guidance documents related to the waste hierarchy steps in the previous phases of the project.

    IMPEL Supporting IED Implementation Project organised a Joint inspection at a paper pulp plant in Sweden The working group inspection and prevention from ET industry and air organised their 14th joint inspection at a pulp and paper plant in Sweden on 8-9 December 2022. This was the first joint inspection after Corona. Inspectors from Sweden, the Netherlands and Finland joined the inspection and an inspector from UK was involved in the preparations.

  • IMPEL Ship Recycling Project organised their first webinar on 28th November 2022

    The IMPEL Ship Recycling Project aims to improve the collaboration between environmental and maritime authorities involved in this field. Different EU legislation and related competences make implementation, supervision and enforcement challenging. To preventing illegal shipments guidance material for authorities and other stakeholders involved will be developed and capacity building for inspectors and other stakeholders is organized. Also, the cooperation with other institutions, agencies, networks within and outside the EU as with non-governmental bodies will be explored.

  • Good practices in the implementation of the EU Action Plan against Wildlife Trafficking Project organised their first joint inspection in Portugal

    The implementation of the EU Action Plan against Wildlife Trafficking requires broad support, not just from the EU institutions, but also the EU agencies – Europol and Eurojust –, the Member States and their relevant agencies, the EU delegations, Member States Embassies in third countries. The aim of ‘Good practices in the implementation of the EU Action Plan against Wildlife Trafficking’ IMPEL project is to analyse the different good practices to implement the EU tools to tackle wildlife trafficking and to build an orientation guide that can be shared and used by all Member States.   • Nature Protection Expert Team Meeting was held online on 23 November

    The Nature Protection Expert Team Meeting took place online on 23rd of November. Focus of this event was to provide an update on IMPEL Projects that are running in 2022-2024 under the Nature Protection Expert Team. Vice Chair of IMPEL Jean Luc Perrin and Expert Team Leader Alfred Dreijer opened the meeting and the meeting was attended by 24 representatives from 11 countries and 2 NGOs. The agenda included presentations from the project managers of Nature Protection projects of IMPEL, proposals for future projects, results of implementation challenges survey and how to expand the network of nature protection team.

  • Management of Mining Waste project meeting was held on 28-29th November

    Management of Mining Waste Project aims to compare the transposition of the Directive by Member States in order to evaluate common guidelines for better management of extractive waste, also in agreement with the exploratory opinion of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), which recommends to Member States to promote initiatives for the exploitation and use of "new fields" of raw materials, such as extractive waste.

  • Strategies for Verification of Self-Monitoring and Reporting on Air Emissions Workshop Report is now available

    Under the umbrella of IMPEL Supporting IED Implementation Project 2021-2024, the VERIFICATION OF SELF-MONITORING AND REPORTING ON AIR EMISSIONS Workshop focused on Operator self-monitoring on emissions to air (continuous and non-continuous) and also focused on the reliability of self-monitoring and its reporting by operators (duty-holders). The project report from the workshop held in 2021 is now approved by IMPEL General Assembly and can be found here.
