The 30th IMPEL General Assembly (GA) took place in Warsaw on 12-13 June 2025.
Before the GA the network were updated on the activities of the Ukraine Coordination Support Group and also heard from the OECD about a project on Best Available Techniques (BAT)
The Network was pleased to welcome a new National Coordinator (NC) from the UK, Martyn Evans. The NCs are the focal points for the Network in each country and play a key role in coordinating the contributions of members in the network.
The Network projects run on a three year funding cycle so the members were updated on an evaluation of the implementation of previous cycle including lessons learned and financial summary, as well as an overview from the 5 Expert Teams (ETs) on activities planned for the new cycle. The GA was happy to approve Marinus Jordaan for a second term as the Team Leader for ET Industry and Air.
Olga Kurpisz from DG Environment gave an update on EU policy developments. She offered to establish bilateral contact between her DG Environment colleagues and IMPEL projects where needed. The Chair of IMPEL, Marco Falconi gave an update on external engagement activities from the Board, focussing on an MOU signed between IMPEL, ENPE and EnviCrimeNet at the 4NC, open days, country visits and cooperation with other partner networks.
Proposals for a retirement programme and covering participation of non IMPEL experts in projects were discussed and further work will be done after the GA in these areas. IMPEL is also working a new communications strategy to help bring together all the activities of the network on communications and dissemination. A task force will be set up and draft strategy discussed at the next GA.
The network thanks our Polish hosts for their excellent planning and organisation of the meeting that ensured a smooth and productive event, as well as the participants for their active contributions. We look forward to the next GA in Denmark (online) in the Autumn!
