1.2. TYPES OF ENVIRONMENTAL LIABILITY

Environmental liabilities may be: 

  • ‘Foreseen liabilities’, which are liabilities that are known to arise. They include development, closure, restoration, remediation, decommissioning and aftercare of installations, activities or sites, or the costs of waste repatriation, or
  • ‘Unforeseen liabilities’, which are environmental liabilities arising from incidents/accidents.
