IMPEL General Assembly Brussels 2024

The 28th IMPEL General Assembly (GA) took place in Brussels on 26-28 June 2024. 

Barbara Dewulf, Deputy Director General at Brussels Environment gave an introductory speech and welcomed participants to Brussels and Vita Jukne from DG Environment gave an overview of the key policy developments at the European level. 

The Network welcomed five new National Coordinators who are the focal points for the Network and a new Team Leader and Deputy Team leader were approved for the Expert Team (ET) Water and Land. The Network was also happy to approve a new member of the Audit and Evaluation Committee. 

Changes to the IMPEL Statutes were approved unanimously (to allow non EU members to continue to participate) in the presence of a notary and will now be submitted for formal agreement in Belgium. 

The main topic and focus for discussion for the GA was the new work programme for 2025-27. Projects have been submitted by the Expert Teams and all the proposals were presented and discussed by the GA. These project proposals will be further refined after the meeting and will be agreed in a written procedure during the summer.

  • Waste Incineration Survey Report

Waste & Transfrontier Shipment of Waste ET 

  • Plastic Waste Shipments Final Report
  • Short study on national measures to reduce freeriding by WEEE Art 17 project

Nature Protection ET

  • JoNeF Survey Report

Cross Ctutting Tools and Apporached ET

  • 4 Networks Conference
  • IRI Ireland Report

Water & Land ET

  • Europe MTT: Data analysis to fill the requirements of the EU regulative environmental framework

These products will now be published on the IMPEL website. 

The next GA will be an online event under the Hungarian EU presidency on 27-29 November.
