EU – Africa collaboration project

Manual on the return of illegal shipments of waste

During controls of waste shipments, cases of non-compliance are detected by the inspectors on a regular basis. For these situations, the legislation has included take-back obligations. To support the involved authorities in the actual arrangements of repatriating the waste, IMPEL TFS has developed a guidance manual.

The EU-Regulation No. 259/93 (the Regulation) on the control of shipments of waste within, into and outside the European Union provides both the means for supervision of legitimate trade in waste and a requirement to deal with illegal traffic.
