7th IMPEL General Assembly in Budapest, Hungary
The 7th IMPEL General Assembly took place in Budapest between the 23rd – 25th May, 2011.
Hosted by the National Inspectorate for Environment, Nature and Water at the Ministry of Rural Development, the General Assembly brought together 27 IMPEL member countries and representatives of the European Commission, Network for Heads of European Environment Protection Agencies, Greenforce and the Regional Environmental Network for Accession.
The General Assembly heard from several high level Hungarian Governemnt Ministers; approved key project reports on: Enforcement Actions II, E-Waste and IRI Romania; approved the work for an interim exchange project: Enforcement Actions; agreed on some changes to IMPEL’s rules and admitted 2 new members to the network taking the figure upto 45.
The General Assembly also appointed a new Chair of IMPEL beginning in May 2011 – Zofia Tucinska from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. Terry Shears from the Environment Agency (England and Wales) was also re-appointed as IMPEL Vice-Chair until 2013. The outgoing Chair, Gerard Wolters, will remain on the IMPEL Board until the end of 2011 in an advisory position.
