  • Number: 2013/05
  • Status: Running
  • Period: 2013
Soil is one of the four natural elements fundamental for life of humans, plants and animals. Due to historical industrialization processes, Europe has some of the most contaminated soils and groundwater in the world, and its protection is a priority for many European environmental authorities. The European Union created during the years a regulatory environment in order to protect soil and groundwater: the Landfill Directives (1999/31/EC), the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC), the Environmental...

IMPEL-TFS Prosecutor Project

  • Number: 2012/12
  • Status: Finalised
  • Period: 2012
The compliance deficit of the Basel Convention and the European Waste Shipment Regulation (1013/2006) or ‘WSR’ is very serious and past experience indicates that we are dealing with organised crime in many cases. Figures indicate that about 20% of all waste shipments are in violation. IMPEL-TFS project results illustrate that within the enforcement and prosecution of the WSR it is very necessary to work together as competent authorities. In the whole chain of one waste shipment, multiple authorities...
